This tragically historic day tends to elicit personal commemorations respective to 9-11 memories, tacit tributes to a truly infamous day in the American narrative. Yet, perhaps greater homage should be paid to those who memorials did not remain as mere nostalgic reminiscences alone- but instead propelled service in defense of our great nation and the liberties enjoyed therein. My husband Jason and cousin Jacob were two of the tens of thousands who valiantly enjoined the chorus of “Let’s Roll” amid the ashes of the fallen. Willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for a cause that surpassed the frivolities of reality television, PETA’s wailings and the Kyoto Protocol, both elected to defend those freedoms held most sacred (even by the ACLU?). With a Commander in Chief- resolute in his convictions and undaunted by a prosecutorial press, the finest of our great land marched onward to preserve the principles of their predecessors. The accolades achieved through their service may decorate their mantles and gleam in the reflection of their beholding prodigy, but these are trivial tokens of our esteem in light of their sacrifice. For this unswerving devotion and palpable patriotism, I commend my own bronze starred hero and the cousin whom I adore and all those whose dutiful action resonated with the spirit of “Let’s Roll.” They are the heroes of this day and of this generation.
