Chase and Eowyn's Very Long Day

On Friday, both Chase Utley and Eowyn Frankenfield endured a very long day. Both will probably not remember much about it - though for entirely different reasons. Yet, this momentous day is worthy of not only commemoration, but celebration. Admittedly, few would characterize me as a sports enthusiast- Lilly Pulitzer being the singular name on my pink jersey-knits. However, winning the World Series Championship is hardly an insignificant achievement. Thus, Eowyn, my brother in law, Jeff, and I bravely journeyed to Broad Street to converge upon the Mardi Gras-like revelry. Eowyn’s courage was undaunted as she sat sublimely in silent wonder as the confetti alighted upon her forehead. And as Chase Utley convoyed past amid the pageantry, I could not help but consider that my own MLB-slated brother, Andrew, might someday relish such a festive affectation. Naturally, I –as his beloved sister- would be standing proudly beside him, employing the “pageant wave.” Until such an occasion, however, I simply savored this Phillies’ victory and dodged the remnants of the curbside tail-gating. Later that evening- while Chases’ activities are left to speculation- the innocent buoyancy of Eowyn’s (nap-less) day was continued- sans alcohol- at our church’s Halloween alternative Autumn Fest which featured Eowyn as a pretty princess in pink. Shocking as it is to imagine this costume selection, it was perhaps a Freudian effort to redeem my own childhood “trick or treat Walk of Shame” as a garish Hobo. Eowyn played every possible game with ardent enthusiasm and elegant aplomb, until even the saccharine treats were rendered impotent against her fatigue. This concluded Eowyn’s part of the very long day- (a day without FCC violations- I might add). In close, this blog entry is dedicated to Earle W. Kulp, my esteemed grandfather who boisterously models active spectator participation and whose unswerving loyalty to the Phillies is rivaled only by his love for family, Pepperidge Farm cookies and his Savior (not necessarily in that order). Congrats Phillies. Go McCain. Country First.

So glad you went! What a great experience for you all. You know how we wish we too could've celebrated in the great city of brotherly love.

i'll be in touch over the next 24 hrs...as we watch, together, our country make probably the biggest decision of her life, AGAIN...in trying to flee government's rule over our personal matters.

praying hard...harder than ever that our country will prevail and make the RIGHT choice.
