Cousin Love in Providence

Last week, Eowyn and I ventured into the staunchly blue state of Rhode Island, our car branded with what must be perceived as veritable confederate flag- our “McCain” campaign sticker. My cousin Laura’s charming New England colonial was our destination, whereupon we relished several days of Heebner hospitality. Eowyn’s delight was found in the company of her more buxom cousin, Anna, whose astounding vocabulary rivals my own. When she wasn’t serenading Eowyn with show tunes and counting to one hundred -in Latin- they embarked on canine seeking missions and enjoyed lengthy bubble baths. Additionally, while in the quaint town of Providence, we visited with my cousins Kylie, Ryan and their daughters, Tatum and Lana. It is fascinating to observe the similarities the second cousins share, even at such a tender age. Eowyn’s affinity for the petite Tatum Bea was- tragically- thwarted at the beginning of our play date, as tiny Tate “love smacked” Eowyn in the face several times. Unfortunately, Eowyn’s stoicism has not reached the height of my father’s and she is hardly impervious to any assault- even by a baby half her size. The tears were endless. Nevertheless, the play date and the entire mini holiday at the Heebner’s was a tremendous success. We were honored by their attentions and acquiescence over our brazen GOP bull’s eye parked in their driveway.
