Admittedly and somewhat abashedly, I must confess I harbored some reservations about welcoming a male child into my perfectly ordered estrogen world. Stubbornly resistant as I am to colors not pink, I feared my affections would be as ephemeral as my shallow sentiments. I even found myself regarding Eowyn with dubious resignation as she performed her daily genuflection over my stomach, kissing me and proclaiming, "I love you baby brother": Could my Lilly Pulitzer mini-me and I reconcile our estrogen-infused existence with trucks and sailboats and dinosaurs? I feared not. Eowyn's aversion to dirt, rivals my own. Her delight in "trying on" Kate Spade purses is truly competitive to my own. And her affinity for baking and nail polish and kitchen-floor dancing is eerily reflective of my own. Yet, upon the moment my gaze arrested my Afro-headed baby, I was shamed at the vanity of my apprehensions. It was, as they say, love at first sight. Sixteen hours of labor, twenty-one doctor's visits, thirty-five -skinny jean prohibitive pounds and thirty-nine weeks of expectation were vanquished memories as I held his slumberous form. And though Kincaid Wallace and I may never share a love for Green Gables or the Lilly Pulitzer warehouse sale or OPI's newest shade, we will always have baseball. For it was on the day of Caid's advent (October 21st) that the Phillies secured their spot in the 2009 World Series and baseball games will always have room in my estrogen-infused existence even if the uniforms aren't pink. Sadly though, for Cole Hamels, I have a new heart-throb with even better hair!

Melissa, he is so freaking cute. I'm so happy for you guys and can't wait to meet the little guy!
Congratulations!! I was wondering if this is what you were up to (giving birth that is) because you were absent in bloggy world. Welcome to the joyous world of two kiddos. Watch out for sudden sprinkles. :)
Oh Melissa! Congrats!!!!! I'm here to say and will cheer you on from the sidelines, you will fall in love with Caid over and over again. There is no amount of pink or little girls in the world that could ever want me to trade in my rowdy, dirty, potty talking, sports lovin' (did i mention rowdy?) boys! Joseph and I cuddled- er I should say, clenching one another, the night of 10/21 when the Phils secured another appearance at the WS. So while you were ushering in your new little knight into the world, I was creating a memory with my 9 yr old son that I will cherish all my days! Being Team Mom and having sports knowledge to impress the little boy friends that show up at our home is a joy and delight! While your lil princess stays inside and plays house happily, your lil man in the making will be exploring the great outdoors. Encourage his masculinity and always allow him to help around the house with fixer upper projects till his heart's content. He will protect you from all icky creatures both in and outside the home. When you must make a late night appearance at Target for a must needed item it will be Caid who will arm himself with courage and honor and of course, imaginary weapons promising to defend you!!
Ah...another man of God in the making - how exciting!!!
Congrats again. And feel free to call me ANY time.
before i sign off, i must recommend 2 excellent books that you must add to your library.
"Raising a Modern Day Knight"
"Future Men"
xoxo from Lisa, the proud mom of 3 lil men in the making.
