The Gift of the "Maggi"

If you have ever had an insatiable craving for Jamaican Cock Soup with Pumpkin than you need to befriend my mom. Last week, a rare discovery of this peculiar “Maggi” product was made in the pantry of my parent’s home while my mom and I laboriously packed up the remnants of their Fogelsville existence. Residential moves unwittingly unveil such treasures-iconic testaments to a home’s history. Evidently, Maggi services both international and domestic palates and sucker suburban soccer Moms whose kitchens boast of culinary diversity, organic milk and free-range (though now dead) chickens. Several packs of this Jamaican “delicacy” were snuggled between similar eclectic delights like Maggi Korean BBQ Surprise (in a packet) and Maggi Mesquite Salmon Filets (in an air-tight packet)- I vacillated between hysterics and hurling.

So, back to my beautiful babies…Compiling one’s earthly goods into a box, discarding trite trinkets and suspicious soups, while savoring sentimental snapshots of celebrated successes compels a critical review of what our possessions reveal about our lives. Not only do I want to memorize each moment of my babies’ bath times together with the exception of the hazardous waste (poop) incidents, but I will probably fall prey to someday boxing up Eowyn’s beloved bath friends- “Ottie the Otter” and “Moses the Seahorse” (Eowyn is a naming genius) to journey with us to our next home. In fact, Maggi’s Jamaican Cock Soup with Pumpkin may even make the trip –just in case, one day, I have a craving for a walk down memory lane.

Meg- Thanks... I think I can safely attribute my kid's cuteness to eating those kind of weird foods, growing up. . . It's the magic of the Jamaican Cock Soup.

Miriam-I should have just told her I am part of a circus freak show....it's part of my gig. Sigh.
