Mel Gibson at 59

This past Sunday, my father gracefully turned 59 years of age with all the aplomb of one who can still do front flips into the crests of Jersey shore waves. However, it not only this feat that speaks to his inherently youthful vigor and agility, but in recent years, even Andrew's soccer team moms have voted him "sexiest dad." Much to my surprise, it is not an award about which he is particularly braggadocios; however, it is one worth noting as my Mel Gibson look-a-like father approaches the season of early bird specials. Yes, in truth, on more than one (somewhat awkward) occasion, he has nearly been mistaken for that famed Braveheart hero. Perhaps it is his piercing blue eyes or the Scottish lilt in his Philly accent or his affinity for discussing and/or yelling "Freedom" that has elicited such an eminent comparison. Regardless of its derivation, my father does in fact emulate this legendary protagonist in many respects. Whether it is his dogged devotion to principle or his penchant for justice or his unfailingly humble confidence, my father demonstrates a heroic character of integrity and honor, about which I will ever remain braggadocios. And really, let's be honest, it is Mel who is lucky to look like the Lehigh Valley's sexiest soccer dad!
