Celebrating "The Future"

Jeremy “The Future” Coleman, a retired PBU basketball phenom, recreational craftsman and my sister Erika’s “babies’daddy” celebrated one of his last twenty-something birthdays this past weekend. Now, some might errantly construe Jeremy’s mocking derision of me as something less than reflective of his profound affection, but of this I am convinced- concealed behind the abs of steel lies a soft and sensitive heart.

Possessing an affinity for both flannel pajamas and fantasy football, Jeremy demonstrates a confident and unswerving commitment to comfortable competition. Unique in his ability to consume nearly one dozen 14th Street Bakery donuts and still maintain his Fabio physique, Jeremy aptly exemplifies the ethos of his Health & PE curriculum (formerly known as “Gym” back in the unprogressive 80’s). More laudatory, however, than his famed “Futuristic” athleticism, is the commensurate excellence with which he engages in parental exercise. Malachi and Palin are quite fortunate (and not just because of their superior genetic engineering).

In close, though you can take the gentle giant out of Trenton, you cannot take Trenton out of the Jer-meister (his "street" name): For whether he is renovating his Applewood home with farmhouse style features or playing Wiffle-ball with his towheaded son, the soft crooning of celebrated musical composer Jay-Z can still be heard above the suburban din. This and more is why we love “The Future.”
