"It Takes a Village" Beach Trip

It does take a village to –at least-transport the plethora of baby beach accessories to a congested seaside plot. Fortunately, this most recent oceanic excursion afforded me the luxury of relatives who not only assisted in such tactical missions, but actually take pleasure in erecting sandcastles . . . with my children. My Aunt Ellen is deserving of the bronze star for her exemplary valor in beach service- exuding both patience and even convivial spirit in the company of my nap-less babes. Not only did she persuade Eowyn to facedown the ominous shower, but she also brokered a tentative alliance between my canine-fearing daughter and “Oscar” the mutt. Nothing short of miraculous.

Suffice to say, despite some anticipated challenges, the day was an unmitigated success. And I believe some sage once exhorted that challenges are just masquerading as opportunities. This person should explain that to Kincaid who had the stroller collapse upon him…while he was seated in it. Apparently, Peg Perego has not yet equipped their terribly chic pram for sand-dune terrain. A lesson Caid has had the opportunity to learn.

Other notable opportunities: Caid and (cousin) Lila enjoyed their inaugural feast of fistfuls of sand -a rite of passage to be followed closely by carousel rides, Johnson's popcorn and then lifeguard-flirtation. And I had the unprecedented opportunity to traverse the Schuylkill Expressway and actually reach the speed limit the entire time.

Giddy with the success of the day, I have become my own hero, that is,until Eowyn elects to publically urinate (again) and I echo her famed rhetorical expression: "It's like- Why do this at all?"

Lovely Lila and her cute mom

just to encourage you, it does get easier with age...theirs. not ours. lynn and erin accompanied me to the beach with my knightly trio and it was great having them each carry their own beach belongings w/o incident. whew! i suppose it's just one of those things where we, as mothers, have to put in the time and hard work and eventually reap the benefits of up and coming little independent charges.
i had the delight of chatting with your mom on sunday at chelten. loooove her! wished i could've seen you there. sigh. i suppose pictures of your adorable kiddos will have to suffice from here on. they really are so precious. i love to hear about all the adventures and daily life of your family.
i'm leaving for the south tues morning and praying i have an uneventful trip home.
