In those blessed, fleeting fifteen minutes in heaven, I entertained a silent soliloquy of my subconscious. No one asked “Why”. No one needed to be wiped. No one demanded a snack or juice or a (better) meal option. No one tattled and no one whined. No one cried and no one fought. The game of Hide and Seek temporarily afforded me asylum from parental duties, engaging my tiny entourage in a task that prevailed over their neediness: Finding their Mom. I could not believe I had waited so long to play.
It was the desperate, maudlin cries of “Mommy” by my playmates that ultimately deflated my glamorous daydreams of well, a thought which enjoyed completion or bathroom visit without an audience. I did not need to be pried out because in fact, I adore those little tax write-offs. I may never be able to finish a story, but they add an incomparable richness to mine.
