How Great You Are!
For the past couple of weeks, Eowyn has been waltzing around the house singing a repeated refrain, “Oh Lord, how great you are!” This flattering disclosure about my child and ergo- my parenting- must have at least earned me the right to kiss the Dobson ring, right? Negative.
Rather, Eowyn had been arduously applying herself to the preparatory work for her inaugural pre-school performance at church. Ironically, each time I stumbled upon her “rehearsing”, she would cease her singing suddenly and adamantly affirm that “It’s a secret song, Mama; you must be patient!” (A refrain, well rehearsed by me) Insisting further, that she had been foresworn to “only sing this song in church.” No one could ever accuse her of not abiding by her word.
And sing it she did, albeit with some initial trepidation that could be rightly attributed to her classmate Ian’s whispered encouragement to “Jump off the stage, Eowyn!” Fortunately, she remained stalwartly in place, front and center, with the sobriety of a Franciscan monk. It is- I suppose- heartening that the “greatness of the Lord” was not determined by the testimony of her countenance, but rather, is evidenced overall in the greatness of my Eowyn.
