Spoon Full of Sugar

Attending Broadway’s Mary Poppins at the Philadelphia Academy of Music is once in a lifetime occasion, or so we kept reminding Eowyn who peered incredulously at the darkened theater stage. However, her fleeting disappointment was defeated as the show commenced: At the conclusion of each and every song, Eowyn swiveled in my lap, still applauding and loudly whispered, “Let’s go tell them what a great job they did!” Meanwhile, I stared disconsolately at the darkened, vacant, not-cheap seat beside me.

Economics aside, in truth, it was a delight to observe her mesmerized fixation and her awe-struck wonder at the esteemed nanny's flight into the audience, which became her refrain to anyone within ear-shot, “Mary Poppins flew to me. She flew through the sky to me!”

As an interesting aside, we were seated next to students from an "urban" school who managed to bring a little “gospel soul” to this British classic.  Step in time, they certainly did.

Utterly enraptured by it all, Eowyn was delightedly exhausted, unable to stay awake during our scenic crawl home on the Schuylkill Expressway with a cookie -full of sugar- discarded on her lap. And I was gratified that Eowyn would assuredly never forget her 4th birthday when Mary Poppins flew right to her!

Eowyn has a wonderful mommy who dragged her sick self to take her precious little pumpkin to a dream come true! Love you both:)

Awesome!!!! Would have LOVED to see that! Went to see Beauty and the Beast on Broadway with my mom and Sydney when she was about the same age and she really liked it. When we came out of the show my mom's car had been towed...gotta love NYC! It turned out to be a very long evening:) One she would never forget!

What an inspired birthday idea! I love that she loved it. I'm also very impressed that she sat through it. That is quite a tribute to you.
