Halloween Hater?

Disclaimer: I am not a Halloween hater who shoves tracks in the masked face of "Buzz Lightyear" then begrudgingly offers a Snickers and a prayer for their salvation.

While I am not a haunted holiday enthusiast, I am reluctant to abandon the costuming habit altogether and find I can guiltlessly escort my tiny tots to the sanctified substitute at our local church.  Ironically, "Fall Fest", purportedly a wholesome seasonal celebration, ostensibly unrelated to the bewitching bru-ha-ha, always falls with uncanny predictability near the date of October 31st. Divine coincidence? I think not.

In recent years, the "gore/whore" trend has grown in popularity and presumably social acceptability- Apparently, the more cleavage or blood the better. It is frankly so confounding that society is desensitized to gratuitous violence and sexual promiscuity what with your local PTA mom posing as  a "Playboy bunny." I guess the message to my four year old is: Tonight, you get to dress-up as Princess Aurora, but in twenty  years, you get to dress-up as a Prostitute. So much to look forward to for our little girls.

Another (profound?) observation:  Halloween is a luxury for nations whose citizens have not experienced ethnic cleansing, genocidal violence or civil unrest. We emulate the frightful because we do not live in fear. Perhaps this revelation will be my consolation next year when my front door is accosted by pre-pubescent "Freddy Kreuger" whose voice cracks during "Trick or Treat."

Wow. I sound bitter and this was not my intent. There is nothing I love more than seeing Caid dressed as a puppy dog, even an angry puppy dog, which-of course- he was by the end of the night. And even that was cute.  Princess Eowyn felt truly regal and ravishing as Cinderella. It's amazing how a costume can transform- for better or worse.

So, next year, Caid will attend "Fall Fest" as an angel.

Great pictures of absolutely beautiful children ... Caid looks pretty miserable as a dog but I think he just dislikes restraints of any kind, human or animal. I can't wait to see those two cuties:)

Loved your editorializing of the wonderful celebration (not) and can't wait to hear about your decision for next year:)
