Swimming in Waimea Falls. Hiking
through botanical gardens with promenading peacocks. Spying a sanctuary of sea
turtles. . . Save for the presence of our two toddler tag-alongs, this day
could have been stolen from a resort brochure, a honeymooner's escape. And yet, ironically, the journey to the North
Shore was hardly under the pretense of romance; rather, we rallied to this organic
adventure for Eowyn's 5th birthday.
As usual, Eowyn's intrepid spirit
belied both her dimunitive size and age, as she made the inaugural jump into the
Falls, cheering, "Mom, come on in; you can do it! You're doing great!" Not
one to be shamed or bested by a veritable dwarf, I bravely joined her while Jason
snapped photos that do not resemble the brochures (e.g. no "Barbie"
showering under nature's cascade). And in
truth, it was an ecological experience without equal. In fact, it might even
have been a birthday without equal. Then
again, on my 5th birthday, I was hiding from a clown. . . at my own party.
Happy Birthday to my beautiful brave Princess Eowyn!

So, your birthday party wasn't fun when you were five????
Too bad there wasn't a clown at the falls... that would have been the perfect party. Oh well, there's always the next one!
Beautiful Melissa. I did that in Australia, off the beaten path, sans children. This will
be a birthday for Eowyn to remember. I love that you involve your children in these adventures. Perhaps next time you and Jason can get a babysitter for that romantic escape??
