Roadtrip

This past weekend, Eowyn and I embarked on a girl’s weekend road trip to rendezvous with my friends Shiloh and Ivan at their charming colonial in Washington, PA. Quite inevitably, there were blizzard-like conditions for our travel, reminiscent of the apocalyptic snowstorm on my wedding day. Nevertheless, Eowyn and I (okay, mainly me) were resolute on traversing the newly inflated toll roads of Pennsylvania-which incidentally should be paved with gold, due to the obscene rate hike. Laden with multiple outfit changes –rivaling a Cher concert, we vociferously accompanied every Veggie Tales album for the duration, sipping juice boxes and popping peanut butter crackers like the crazy girls we are. Upon our arrival, Shiloh’s son Malachi & Eowyn embraced and (chastely) kissed like long-lost loves. From that point forward, it was all very “Daisy and Gatsby.” The pleasure of visiting old friends not forgotten is always sweet and perhaps the truest test of any alliance is the veracity and candor of their speech. Somewhat comfortingly, I have found these friends to be veritable: They all candidly proclaimed their abhorrence for my Sarah Palin-inspired bangs. What’s a girl’s weekend –however- without some sort of cosmetology make-over? We had a fabulous time. Eowyn cannot stop asking for “Kai Kai.” And the bangs are gone.
