Unveiled

Eowyn was featured in my session Unveiled: Authentic Lives in a Plastic World was an evangelical estrogen-infused event. And it was –frankly- fabulous. Almost 700 lovely ladies descended upon Calvary Church over the weekend of November 12th & 13th to attend this annual conference for girls and the women in their lives.

Author of And the Bride Wore White, Dannah Gresh headlined the occasion with supplementary break-out speakers addressing integral issues such as “Worship is Not for the Faint-hearted” by celebrated (by my children) teacher Jackie Kulp, “MythBusters” by beloved student ministries leader, Jessica Greaser, “What Guys are Really Thinking” by pregnancy clinic director, Lee Anne Patkos and “Great Sexpectations” by well, I’ll let you guess. Jim Dougherty of Five Mile Fall and songbird Kim Buzchek graced the stage with their musical genius and Mallory Patkos orchestrated a promenade of (modest) fashions for the fall.

My only regret is that we were never afforded the luxury of such an event in our youth, which may have diverted me from my brief life of crime. I look forward to the day when I can attend Unveiled 2020 with Eowyn and we can wear matching t-shirts (which I am sure she will hate).

It was a profound privilege to co-chair this event with my two venerable colleagues whose company -unfailingly-made the collaborative “work” seem more like a girl’s night out (absent the martinis). Gracious to a fault, they indulged the frequent presence of our “non-voting” board members (Caid & Eowyn) who enlivened the meetings with interruptions demanding “wiping assistance” and nursing breaks. Nothing says “professional” like a dual purpose diaper bag that boasts of both “butt paste” and a bulleted agenda. And yet, God afforded success to our endeavors. If you weren’t there this year, I hope you are sickened with regret….so don’t miss the third installment in 2011.
